The NiSi 16mm F2.8 is a manual ultra-wide-angle lens for mirrorless medium format cameras, opening up an exceptionally wide 118-degree angle of view. An F2.8 maximum aperture, an optical design of 16 elements in 12 groups and a weather-sealed metal barrel make it a dedicated prime lens for landscape, architecture and astrophotography. The 82mm filter thread accepts common screw-in filters, or you can integrate the lens directly into the NiSi JetMag Pro 95MAG filter system using a matching adapter.
118-Degree Angle of View for Landscape and Architecture
With a 16mm focal length, the NiSi 16mm F2.8 covers exceptionally large areas of a scene – the resulting image is roughly equivalent to a 12.6mm lens on full frame. Sweeping landscapes, expansive skies and tight interiors can be captured in a single frame, without stitching several images together.
In architectural photography, you can fit tall buildings and wide façades into the composition even from a limited distance. The short minimum focusing distance of 0.25 metres also supports a strong foreground: nearby subjects appear large and prominent while the surroundings recede far into the background.
The maximum magnification of 0.12x is no substitute for true macro photography, but it noticeably widens your creative options with close-up details.
F2.8 Maximum Aperture for Astro and Night Photography
The F2.8 maximum aperture lets a comparatively large amount of light reach the big medium format sensor. In astrophotography this means shorter exposure times or lower ISO values – which results in cleaner image files when shooting starry skies, the Milky Way or night-time cityscapes.
Three aspherical glass elements support even optical performance, while four extra-low dispersion elements keep colour fringing under control. The optical design is built for high-resolution medium format cameras of up to 100 megapixels and renders fine textures, distant landscape detail and crisp building edges precisely across a large part of the image field.
The eight aperture blades produce clearly defined eight-point sunstars between F4 and F22 – ideal for illuminated architecture and deliberately placed sunstars in your composition.
Full Manual Control in a Rugged Metal Barrel
Focusing is fully manual via a focus ring with 180 degrees of rotation. The long throw makes precise focus control easier, whether for astro shots, architectural subjects or carefully prepared landscape compositions. The aperture is set directly on the lens as well: the clicked aperture ring allows a clearly repeatable choice between F2.8 and F22.
A metal barrel and a seal against moisture and dust support use in changing conditions outdoors. At approximately 835 grams, the medium format lens remains portable without compromising on rugged construction.
The SA+ coating reduces unwanted reflections, while a durable surface coating improves protection against water, oil and fingerprints.
82mm Filter Thread and JetMag Pro Integration
The 82mm filter thread takes common screw-in filters directly. All you need for the NiSi JetMag Pro 95MAG filter system is a matching adapter – after that you swap polarisers, ND filters and graduated filters magnetically and without cross-threading, even in cold weather or with gloves on.
In landscape and long-exposure photography in particular, this speeds up filter changes considerably when the light shifts quickly.
