NiSi JetMag Pro Landscape Kit in Iceland: Arnold’s field report

NiSi Ambassador Arnold Schaffer used the JetMag Pro Landscape ND Kit 82MAG for almost two weeks in Iceland. Read his field report: how our magnetic filter system performs out in the field, what’s inside the kit and who it’s right for.

When NiSi introduced the JetMag Pro magnetic filter system, I was immediately excited. I had the opportunity to test the Landscape Kit and use it on my photo trip to Iceland. This set contains a selection of ND filters and a polarising filter, plus adapter rings for different lenses. But how does this first magnetic filter system from NiSi perform in practice?

The magnetic filter system in the field

What makes this filter system special is the magnetic mechanism, which lets you attach the filters to the lens in a flash. Instead of a conventional screw-in system, the filters simply hold magnetically. A practical marking provides additional security, so the filters stay firmly and stably on the lens. A particular highlight is that several filters can be stacked on top of each other and also securely connected to one another. I especially liked this well-thought-out mechanism, as it makes handling filters much easier.

Note on use with wide-angle lenses: Thanks to the slim design, up to two filters can be used at a focal length of 15 mm without vignetting.*

Multi-coloured grips for easy filter identification

To tell the filters apart quickly, the grips come in different colours. The ND filters have blue grips, the polarising filter has a white grip, and other filter types are marked with further colours. In addition, the exact name of each filter, such as ND64, ND1000 or True Color CPL, is printed on its side.

Quality of the ND filters and the polarising filter

The NiSi JetMag Pro magnetic filter system impresses with its high-quality workmanship. The ND filters feature a Full Spectrum coating that offers particularly high light transmission while ensuring colour fidelity. This coating is also resistant to scratches and dirt, so the filters are easy to clean.

After almost two weeks of intensive testing, I can only praise the advantages of the NiSi JetMag Pro magnetic filter system. The biggest plus of this system is its easy handling: thanks to the magnetic system, the filters can be attached in no time and removed just as easily when needed. The well-thought-out locking mechanism ensures a secure fit on the lens.
