The NiSi True Colour VND/PL 1–5 Stops combines variable light reduction and polarisation, with independent adjustment for each, in a single filter. This variable ND and polarising filter is designed for photographers, filmmakers and content creators who wish to flexibly control both exposure and reflections. The light reduction can be adjusted between 1 and 5 f-stops, whilst the polarisation is set separately. True Colour technology, an exceptionally slim aluminium frame and a low-reflection nano-coating ensure natural colours and flexible use in changing light conditions.

VND/PL 2-in-1 with independent exposure and reflection control

The NiSi True Color VND/PL 1–5 Stops combines a variable ND filter and a polarising filter in a single unit. Both functions can be adjusted independently of one another, meaning that changing the polarisation does not affect the selected ND level. This allows you to first set the desired light reduction and then adjust the effect on reflections separately. The polarising filter reduces unwanted reflections on water, glass and vegetation, whilst the variable ND range controls the amount of incident light. This reduces the number of individual filters in your kit and enables quicker set-up when shooting a variety of subjects. The adjustment range of 1 to 5 f-stops is suitable for a variety of lighting conditions and supports both long exposures in photography and video recording with a specifically selected shutter speed. In bright ambient light, this allows you to achieve natural motion blur without having to control exposure and reflections using two separate filters.

True Colour VND filter for neutral colours in photography and video

The True Colour technology of the NiSi True Colour VND/PL 1–5 Stops is designed to deliver neutral colour reproduction across the entire adjustment range. According to the manufacturer, it prevents both a magenta cast and a warm colour cast, which can occur with other polarising filters. This ensures that colour tones remain consistent in RAW photos and LOG video, which simplifies the subsequent workflow for colour grading and editing. At the same time, the variable ND filter is designed to prevent the typical X-pattern or cross-polarisation that can occur with some VND filters. For filmmakers and content creators, the range of 1 to 5 stops allows for quick adaptation to changing lighting conditions, for example when shooting outdoor videos, travel content or YouTube footage. However, at high density levels of 4 to 5 stops, NiSi recommends not adjusting the polarising filter further, as this can lead to overly saturated colours.

Ultra-slim frame, nano coating and SWIFT compatibility

The NiSi True Color VND/PL 1–5 stops features an exceptionally slim frame made from a robust aluminium alloy with a corrosion-resistant finish. According to the manufacturer, the flat design is engineered to prevent vignetting even when used on 15 mm ultra-wide-angle lenses on full-frame cameras. This makes the filter suitable for wide-angle landscape, architectural and video photography. A four-sided low-reflection nano-coating on the filter surfaces reduces reflections and repels water and oil. This makes it easier to remove dirt, which simplifies handling during outdoor and travel photography. Luminescent markings improve readability and adjustment in low light without the need for an additional light source. The system also includes a precision-machined aluminium lens cap, which attaches to the front of the filter and protects it from dust, scratches and knocks during transport. Furthermore, the VND/PL filter is compatible with the NiSi SWIFT system and can be combined with other compatible SWIFT filters.
