Michael Kalcher is a videographer and founder of MIVID Media in Vienna. He produces corporate films, documentaries and explainer videos – mostly for companies that need to explain a complex topic without becoming boring. What interests him is the moment when an image is just right: the right light, the right framing, a scene that looks exactly as it felt during filming. Whether in a conference room, on the factory floor or out in the countryside – his standards remain the same. That’s why he decides as much as possible during filming rather than waiting until the grading stage. The NiSi variable ND filter is practically part of his lens – what matters most to him is that the colours remain neutral and that he doesn’t have to correct a colour cast in every shot. He also uses a Black Mist filter, depending on the scene, if he wants the image to be a little softer. For him, filmmaking isn’t a technical project, but a craft with a single goal: a story that you won’t forget straight away.
