JetMag Pro in Forest Photography

In spring 2025, I had the pleasure of testing the NiSi JetMag, a filter system with magnetic filters. I used it to capture the splendour of flowers sprouting everywhere in parks and forest glades: snowdrops, daffodils and crocuses competed in a riot of colour, while insects feasted on the nectar.

For my tests, I used the True Colour Polariser and the Black Mist Filter in strengths of ¼ and ⅛, each with a diameter of 82 mm. Depending on the situation on site, I also used the filters in combination. Furthermore, I tested the filters with the NiSi Close-Up Lens. The filters and their lens caps were stored in a sturdy but not too heavy fan-shaped bag with carabiner hooks, the JetMag Caddy, so that I could transport them safely.

Handling

The filters are very easy to use. You can attach or remove a filter in one simple step. To do this, first screw an adapter ring, available in sizes 67 mm, 72 mm, 77 mm and 82 mm in the set, onto the lens.

The set also includes two Black Mist filters with strengths of 1/8 and 1/4. I also used the True Colour polarising filter for my forest photography.

The desired filter – or even several filters – can then be attached to this ring with a single click. My concern that the filter would come off the lens more easily than a rotating filter proved unfounded. In all situations, whether shooting handheld or from a tripod, the filter held its position perfectly. However, it is advisable to ensure that there are no particles on the adhesive surfaces. Once, when I was photographing flowers as macro objects with the camera directly on the ground, I got grass stuck between the adapter ring and the filter.

Effect

The filters have the desired effect and the excellent quality I have come to expect from NiSi filters.

The Black Mist filter created an atmospheric glow in the shots. In the evening backlight, it conjured up a warm tone in the image.

Even in the macro shots, where I stacked a polarising filter and a mist filter, there was a nice glow around the objects. The mist filter softened the images and the polarising filter ensured that the colours were rich and realistic and that the surfaces of the petals were not overexposed.

These images were taken using a Black Mist Filter 1/8, 1/4 and True Colour Polariser in combination with the NiSi Close-Up Lens.

Conclusion

I can wholeheartedly recommend both the tested filters and the new JetMag Pro filter system to any photographer who wants something easy to use and expects excellent filter quality at the same time.
