Experience Report: NiSi Circular ND-Filter-Kit

The NiSi Circular ND Filter Kit has been an indispensable part of my camera bag for years. I enjoy being active and often go on extended hikes to hidden photo spots away from the touristy trails, both on personal trips and when photographing with clients.

Consequently, the weight of my gear plays a significant role, and I prefer compact screw filters over filter holder systems. The NiSi Circular ND Filter Kit includes exactly the three filters I use most frequently during my photo expeditions. I use the ND8 filter for slight darkening, especially during twilight, to extend the exposure time or in dark forests.

My personal favorite is the ND64 filter with an integrated polarizer. This allows me not only to achieve a darkening of 6 stops, which is usually more than enough for the effect I want to achieve, but I can also remove reflections from water surfaces and leaves. And all of this without having to screw on a second filter.

An absolute game changer for my photography. Stuck filters are a thing of the past, and I no longer have to worry that the extra glass in front of the lens might affect image quality. The ND64-CPL is definitely the most used filter in my portfolio.

The third filter in the set is an ND1000 with a darkening of 10 stops. I use this filter when I want to do long exposures in daylight or extend the exposure time to 30 seconds or more. I often use these long exposure times to blur clouds in the sky and add more dynamism to the image. It’s also great for smoothing out choppy water surfaces with extended exposure times.

I have been using this NiSi filter set for a long time and I am absolutely impressed by the quality, both in terms of build and image quality. Even after several years of use in sometimes difficult conditions, the filters still have no scratches. There are no color shifts in the photos, not even when I stack two filters on top of each other. The color reproduction is truly phenomenal.

Another advantage of these filters is their compact size. The filters can either be stored in the included pouch or screwed together in a space-saving manner. This makes them fit into even the most carefully packed travel gear, and you don’t have to leave them behind on strenuous mountain hikes.

For me as a NiSi photographer, this ND filter set is an absolute must-have and, year after year, is the most used accessory. Additionally, I am currently using the NiSi L-Bracket, the True Color CPL & the NiSi Natural Night Filter.
